wonderful information. Good teachers feel the same, I'm sure.

As a parent of 7 and grandparent of 14 I can vouch for this attitude from personal experience.

What an excellent avenue to learning good words and art give ALL of us...beginning with our babies.

Cheers!

I enjoyed reading this narrative very much. I found the 'story within a story' to be an effective enhancement. My grandmother is 95 and suffers from some dementia. She is very clear about what happened long ago, though, and loves to tell about it. I love listening because I learn about her, my family and also life at that time. If conversation is all about the present, Grandma gets left far behind and drifts off into her own private world. But if we talk and listen about the past, she's animated and fully engaged and you would never suspect she has any memory problems at all. Perhaps this is nature's way of making sure stories get passed from one generation to the next. If she was able to keep up with the present day talk, perhaps she would not talk about her youth and my children would never hear them told by someone who was there.

One more correction -- the Doucet House dates to the 1770s, not the 1720s. It's a fine example of post-1758 deportation Acadian vernacular architecture, and is indeed the oldest documented house on the Island.

Your photos are wonderful -- thanks for your article and interest in my favorite spot in the world!
